A Fond Farewell to Vice-Principal Stuart White

13 February 2015

Today is my last day at BISS Puxi, something which inevitably makes me a little reflective.

When I arrived in 2009 we had about 850 students.  The secondary school was on a different site about 15 minutes bus ride away and we had 23 IB students in Year 13.  We are nearly double that size now, on an integrated site, and last year’s 80 IB graduates achieved stunning results on a par with anywhere in the world.

When Kevin Foyle interviews prospective teachers, he asks them what makes them feel proud.  For me, looking back over six years as Head of Secondary and more recently as Vice-Principal, the answer lies, of course, in the achievements of the students.  They have surpassed themselves on stage, in sports teams, on expeditions and, perhaps most importantly for me, through their outstanding academic successes and the university destinations they have moved on to.  I have greatly enjoyed sharing in all of these.  I am proud of being part of the best school in Shanghai.  It has been a privilege to work with Kevin and the rest of the school community to help to bring that about, and I wish everyone who remains part of the BISS Puxi journey every success.

- Stuart White, Vice-Principal
