Some of the many activities our students, parents and teachers got involved in to raise money for Nepal
As a school we managed to raise an amazing 72,471RMB and there is still more money coming in to be counted!
We will be donating the money raised towards the great work that a fellow FOBISIA School, The British School Kathmandu, are doing with local schools in Nepal. They have so far collected enough money to fully rebuild three schools they work with and to help another two schools with their building needs as well. We are very pleased to be able to add the support of the BISS Puxi community to this work.
You can watch a video on their school website to see some more information about the schools they are helping.
A huge well done and thank you to everyone who was involved in the fundraising week. We had bake sales across the school, with nearly every bake sale in primary raising over 3,000RMB. Year 4 deserve a special mention for raising a grand total of 4,137RMB.
Primary students Lowe, Sofia and Na Eun in 5U designed and made Support Nepal badges to sell and Julie, Sarah, Helena Tang, Helena Wang, Freyha, Joceline, Terezka and Anneka in 6S and Helene and Lulu in 6U worked incredibly hard to sell badge and bracelets throughout the week.
In secondary, students were busy raising money all week too, from offering song requests outside in the quad in exchange for a donation and selling badges and bracelets, to bake sales and building a coin pyramid.
On Friday, each of the form groups got together to raise as much money as they could in a variety of different ways. 7I held a book sale, 7U were teaching people about Nepalese culture and language and doing a sponsored relay run, 8B hosted a lunch time movie, 9P were busking around school for donations and 12S organised a clothes drive.
But well done to the forms that raised the most money:
- 8U who raised 8,700RMB for Mr Valente to shave his head(!)
- 8P and the swim team who raised 8,381RMB with their swimathon
- 8I who raised 6,273RMB with their Walkathon
- 7Sraised 7,724RMB from their bake sale and personal donations
A special thanks from Ms Coong to Jerome Ching Year 12, Tes Choi 9P, Margaux Consigny 9P, Renee Sim 9P, Monique Tan 7B, Natarsha Yan 7I, Tom Hayes 7P and Hiba Ajarti 9S who really helped out throughout the week.
And it’s not just in school that our students are working to raise money to help school children in Nepal. Four of our primary children, Amelie and Milo Laudick and Gracie & Sophie Elliot, hosted a lemonade and cookie stand on their front lawn and raised 400RMB which they presented to Ms Jess and Ms Parker to go towards the relief fund.
Well done to them and to everyone who got involved in the fundraising throughout the week and to the parents for all their support also. It has been great to see the enthusiasm and creativity that our students and school community have shown in responding to the disaster in Nepal and helping how they can.
