BISS Students Star In Their Own Short Film

23 September 2015

Last Friday, all Year 12 and Year 13 IB Film students, plus 20 student actors from Years 10 to 13, visited the Shanghai Film Studios. This is a professional outdoor facility that features numerous settings including a West Nanjing Road of the 1930s, a European town square with church and some old-fashioned alleyways.

  • Film Studio Trip 2015

We were challenged to make a short film in just one day, working in small groups alongside fellow students from BISS Puxi and also film students from SCIS, who were also there for the day.

It was an amazing experience as we had the opportunity to create our own story, based on an idea from a cryptic word or sentence given to us, as well as some technical demands such as camera or editing types. I loved the idea of having a theme to base our story around since it made the process of coming up with a story a lot more challenging as well as bringing out the creative side and personality of everyone in the team.

The actual filming of the short film was the part I loved the most because we had the chance to film anywhere in the studio and base our story in different areas. We had more than 10 possible locations in the studio; this really helped our story since we had three different stories happening at the same time, and we could set each story in a different place. Not only was it fun, during the trip I learned to work as a team with people I’ve never talked to before and I even learned some new filming ideas and techniques from the people I had the chance to work with.

We will finish our editing and sound design over the next week and look forward to showing off our work in the near future!
