BISS Lions Sports Report

24 September 2015

The BISS Lions have enjoyed a few weeks of very busy sport in the early part of this academic year.  This week has been no different with Volleyball, Rugby, Netball and Basketball teams all being represented.  Our dedicated coaches share their summaries below:

  • Netball 2015

Rugby

This weekend the BISS Lions travelled to NAIS Pudong for 3 games of rugby. The D1 team opened up with a business-like performance against NAIS Pudong, winning 22-0.  Lasse Aamoodt and Sean Hughes scoring a single try a piece, with Greig Grant again scoring two tries.  Their second match of the day was against SCIS HQ, and the boys produced a much improved performance. Some slick handling in the backs resulted in a 34-5 victory.  The D2 team, with some players getting their first taste of rugby at any level, not just senior level, beat a spirited SAS Pudong side 7-0. These 3 performances showed how hard the boys are working, their continued improvement is testament to this.

Netball

BISS Puxi hosted Saturday’s Netball fixture against two teams from The Nord Anglia International School. It proved to be a huge learning experience for many of the students as they were up against tough opposition.  We lost our first game, however won the second match where much improvement was made throughout the four quarters.  Rae Tasker stood out particularly, demonstrating great defensive play.

Basketball

The Boys’ Division 1 and Division 2 basketball teams were in action this weekend in a three team tournament held at WISS. Managing to hold their own against both the host school and CIC, despite it being preseason, we played some good basketball in patches throughout the games.

Captain Jamie Shen was on excellent form, as was Jasper DeMeyer. It looks to be a challenging season for the boys with five of our strongest players having graduated; however Lawrence Lu played very well after improving immensely over the summer. Morton Eh was on similarly excellent form despite his limited experience. The boys begin the October holiday next Saturday with a friendly game away at SHID as they look to build on the good work from the previous weekend.

Last word

In closing, The BISS Lions go into a well-deserved break over the Golden Week holiday.  When we return, we will be beginning the Middle school football fixtures in the CISSA Leagues, we will have the closing part of the SISAC (High School) Volleyball and Netball seasons and the beginning of the SISAC Basketball season.  We will also be competing in the swimming pool, British Schools League Football, SISAC Rugby, SISAC Tennis and our Elite U15 Athletes will be travelling to Hong Kong to represent the school in the U15 FOBISIA Games.  With lots to look forward to, enjoy your holidays and stay fit and healthy.
