Join the Key Stage 3 students for an evening of fabulous entertainment in the Secondary Auditorium. The cast members have been busy these last few weeks, preparing for the upcoming Key Stage 3 production The Muppet Christmas Carol. Lines are being learnt and songs are being sung, and they are now at the stage where they can look back on previous scenes and perfect their character personas.
The Muppet Christmas Carol was directed by Brian Henson in 1992 and closely follows Dickens’ original classic. Scrooge is still his horrid, nasty self, and he is still visited by ghosts throughout Christmas Eve. The ending also stays true to the original, but of course we won’t reveal that to you now.
Ms Cotrim together with the students at BISS Puxi have used this world famous adaptation for inspiration during rehearsals. As well as following the script, students were encouraged by the directors to present their characters as displaying the features and mannerisms of the puppet that played them. For example, Rizzo, who was played by a rat in the Muppet’s adaptation, is consistently eating, scratching and searching for food. Mrs Cratchit is also just as loud, bolshie and (let’s be honest) annoying as Miss Piggy, who originally played her. The students have also incorporated the humour used by the Muppets within their piece to ensure it is suitable and enjoyable for an audience of all ages. Overall, the creative team has adopted many of Henson’s songs and ideas within the production, whilst still making it their own.
The Muppet Christmas Carol is suitable for all ages, and will be enjoyed by young and old. Performance dates are 6.30pm on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 December, in the Secondary Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased via YooPay for Monday and via YooPay for Tuesday, or from the PTA Christmas Fair, at 40RMB per adult, and 20RMB per student.
