Year 10 Work Experience

01 September 2017

At the end of Year 10, all students undertake a week’s work placements to get a taste of the world of work and start thinking about possible careers. Here are some of their stories:

  • Year 10 Work Experience

Louise Eloot worked at United Family Hospital in patient services and assisting the family doctor. Her jobs included cleaning out the infected ear of a patient (!), preparing gift baskets for longer-term patients, filling orders for medication and writing up medical reports. Louise felt she learned to improve her communication skills, work independently and develop her empathy for patients.

Jack Timms went to work for the advertising company williamsleatag. He found there were a lot more sectors involved in advertising than he had previously thought. During his busy work experience placement he made a family video and a commercial for a hotel, whilst also experimenting with airbrushing photographs of models (Mum!) and completing music mixes for his projects. Even better, he was invited back to use the studies any time!

Quite a few students found work in the education sector – Naya Thomsen, Matteo Guglielmi and Floris Arts worked at Sport for Life, whilst Gaeun Wu worked at a kindergarten. All of them found working with young kids taxing. Naya’s goals included improving her cooperation with others and getting to know more about working in the sports industry. She had to think on her feet when the children got bored and also adapt to sudden changes in the schedule, as for example, when rain stopped play on the outdoor football pitch.
