The competition lasted two days, with 23 teams from International schools around Asia. After months of training our team was ready to compete!
From outstanding performances individually, beating PB’s and winning first places in heats, our swimmers have shown what BISS Puxi can really do. Relay teams supported each other and each individual taking part made sure they swam the best they could for their team. Watching swimmers shout in joy after making a PB and even better, winning first in their heats made both days extremely exciting for all of us. Every time a race came up we were there, ecstatic, and ready to swim to the best of our abilities.
Over the two days of competition, I have watched our swimming team being there for one another. When one of our team members was marshalling one to two people were with him/her making sure that they were ready and giving them encouraging words. Each swimmer was focused and knew that all of his or her teammates would be there if they needed them. I have watched our team cheer for one another throughout the whole entire two days, shouting louder than any other schools and encouraging each and every single swimmer racing. I was very pleased to see our team being so close to one another.
I would not have been able to enjoy this trip and swim to the best of my abilities if Mrs Yardy hadn’t been there for us and giving us advice after each race. Our swimmers would not be able to do magnificent dives, quick turns and precise strokes if Mrs Yardy hadn’t prepared us well. She helped to improve our strokes and become faster, making challenging sets so that we can build up our endurance. None of our successes would have happened if we did not have a coach as persistent as Mrs Yardy. We owe all of our successes to her and I feel so privileged to have her as my coach.
This was my first time doing FOBISIA Swimming and it has been a fantastic experience. Our team came 10th out of 23 schools and with such few swimmers in some age groups; I believe that we have made an excellent score and that we should all be very proud. Many swimmers have made new school records that are ready to be broken. Knowing that I have improved my time and watching my teammates win their races, and knowing that I am part of such a good team with such talented swimmers is a constant reminder as to why I have chosen to swim.
Finally, I want to remind all swimmers that this is just one competition out of many, and that we should not stop trying to achieve better times, or think that we are not able to do better. You are capable of doing so much more and I cannot wait for our next competition so that I can see what progress we have all made. Lastly, thank you to all of my friends and teammates for making this trip an amazing experience that I am not likely to forget anytime soon. Thank you!
