Looking to the Future

09 March 2018

We have a particularly eventful term coming up at school. Very shortly we present our Bugsy Malone show, our International Food Event, tomorrow is our wonderful University Fair and at the very moment we are hosting an amazing FOBISIA Maths challenge with 29 schools from across Asia attending and competing in Maths challenges. BISS students and our school community really do have an amazing set of experiences. And as a backdrop to all of those events we have our grand official opening of the MIT-inspired Hamilton Centre, with food, wine and guest speakers.

The Hamilton Centre is named after Margaret Hamilton, pioneering Apollo engineer for NASA who invented the term ‘software engineering’, and graduate of MIT, our inspiration for the eponymous Hamilton Centre.

But perhaps of even more worthy note, especially in this week in which we have celebrated International Women’s Day, Margaret was a fantastic role model for female scientists during an era where this was an unusual profession for female students to consider. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate role model for our students, or a more inspirational unsung hero of the combination of each STEAM subject to achieve heights considered beyond the reach of humankind.

So, we really look forward to seeing you all join us for this spectacular celebration and opening event on the evening of 19 April, along with our CEO Andrew Fitzmaurice, and many local and international dignitaries, as we celebrate the start of the journey which our MIT-inspired new facility represents for all students.
