Week Beginning 30 November 2015

Date for your Diaries – The Reception Christmas Play ‘Snowman at Sunset’ will be on the morning of 8th December in Stage One. You will be able to take your seats in Stage 1 from 9:00. The show starts at 9:30am so do get here in plenty of time to get a good seat! We do hope you will be able to attend.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that ALL clothing that comes to school is clearly named.
  • Girls Swimming: It is getting colder and lots of girls are wearing warm black tights. On Swimming days please send them into school in black leggings and black socks instead. It really helps us when the children change at the end of the session as they can manage them more easily.

LEARNING THEME:  CHRISTMAS PREPARATION

Our Big Question is: How can we prepare for Christmas? 

As we put the finishing touches to our Christmas production we will be thinking about the other things we can do to help to celebrate this special time of year.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE & UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

The children will be encouraged to share what they do at home with their friends and family in order to get ready for and celebrate Christmas and if they do not celebrate it we will encourage them to talk about other times that they might sing songs, eat special foods and celebrate in similar ways.

We will following some instructions to make some delicious ginger biscuits too this week. The children will need to listen and watch so they know what to do to make sure their biscuit is delicious! We will be talking about how the ingredients change in this process too.

Key Vocabulary: special, family,celebrate, tradition, instructions, first, next, mix, put in, cook, change.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS & DESIGN

We will continue to make props for our Christmas production and also to use a variety of media to create decorations for our Cubs environment. Decorations are a wonderful part of the Christmas tradition and we will encourage the children to use new skills and be creative to make our Cubs spaces feel festive.

Key Vocabulary: decoration, celebrate, prop, head dress.

Construct with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources.

Use simple tools and techniques competently and appropriately.

PHONICS

Pufferfish- Pufferfish will review all of our sounds learnt so far and introduce ar (car) and or (short). We will continue to use our sounds to help us read and write CVC and CVCC words.

Sharks- The Shark group will be reviewing all sounds learnt to date. They will practise their blending and segmenting skills. They will also practise using tricky words in sentences. 

Octopus – The Octopus group will be reviewing all sounds learnt to date. They will practise their blending and segmenting skills. They will also practise using tricky words in sentences. 

Jellyfish – Jellyfish will review all of our sounds learnt so far and introduce w,y and z. We will continue to use our sounds to help us read and write CVC and CVCC words.

Starfish- We will continue to read and write CVC words with the known sounds and add the new sounds, h, b, f, ff to make new words, for example; huff and puff, bat, fan, him.

MATHS

We will consolidate the childrens understanding of the order of the days of the week and the months of the year as we start Advent and count down to Christmas. We will also be explore measuring out various amounts of each ingredient as we make our Ginger biscuits.

Key Vocabulary: date, day, and days of the week  words, moth and months of the year words, more, less, full, half full, a little bit, teaspoon.

MANDARIN

This week the children will be continue  talk about what happens in winter and link with our class theme –Christmas. We  will also share a story  which is called ‘The First Christmas’. Our big question is ‘Sheng dan jie li you shen me’

DUTCH

Jules is opgetogen.  De Sint is bijna jarig!  Misschien kunnen we de Sint dit jaar ook  eens in de bloemetjes zetten? We denken samen na over hoe een verjaardagsfeest voor de Sint eruit kan zien.  In de Sinthoek zetten we alles klaar voor het `schoenzetten`.  Indien u thuis een oud kinderschoentje heeft mag u dit zeker meegeven!  We zetten onze schoen in de klas op maandag 30 november.

Vol verwachting klopt ons hart... Zou de Sint ook dit jaar Shanghai Dutch School verblijden met een bezoek? We zullen er op vrijdag 4 december achterkomen. Van 3:30 – 5:30 pm vieren we het sinterklaasfeest op school. Vanaf 5:30 pm is iedereen van harte welkom om het feest voort te zetten bij de Sinterklaas Afterparty in Yasmine’s Steakhouse (in de Fashion Park Mall, bij school).
