Week Beginning 15 June 2015

End of Year Party - We are all looking forward to our end of year party this week, thanks to the hard work of many of our parents. We invite the children to bring with them some smart party clothes to change into prior to the party. Please send party clothes in a named bag and ensure the clothes are clearly labeled with your child’s name.

Messages

  • From 15 June to 19 June there will be an Art Exhibition of the Year 1 and 2 children’s artwork. Their work will be displayed in the Primary Foyer and we invite you all to come along (before or after school) to have a look at the children’s work. The children have worked really hard on their art pieces and are proud to have them displayed for all to see.
  • Please label all school uniform, including PE kit and a sun hat for the warmer weather.  A surprising number of items are found to be unnamed, which causes unnecessary stress and expense for parents.  Named items will be promptly returned to their owner when found.
  • Sunhats can be purchased in the uniform shop, please send a named sunhat for your child’s wellbeing during outside play as the weather is now warming up.

Literacy

Literacy this week has strong links to our themed learning topic of Jobs, and this week children will be writing job applications for classroom positions and describing the skills needed for different jobs.  Children will be given the opportunity to make a persuasive case for their own selection for particular classroom jobs.

Phonics

This week in phonics the children will be studying the following sounds or phases:

Stingrays – Review of sounds

Sharks – Review of high frequency words

Jellyfish - Will continue to practise reading words with two adjacent consonants, such as: stand, crisp, trend, trust, spend, twist, brand, frost, cramp and frost

Pufferfish – We will be looking at the spelling of the 'or' sound before the letter 'l'. It is usually spelled with an 'a' eg. all, ball, call...

Octopus – Review of sounds

Maths

As we approach the end of the school year, teachers will use daily maths time to review previous work and strengthen knowledge in work already covered; topics covered this week will vary from class to class.

Themed Learning

This week we are working on our ‘Jobs That People Do’ topic and children will spend time studying various occupations and looking at changes throughout history as well as the tools used in various jobs.

Vocabulary

Deze week hebben de kinderen de LOVS Cito-toets ‘Taal voor kleuters’ gemaakt. Hiermee kunnen we de voortgang meten op het gebied van passieve woordenschat, kritisch luisteren, klank en rijm, eerste en laatste woord horen, auditieve synthese en schriforiëntatie. Ook hebben ze de toets ‘Beginnende geletterdheid’ gemaakt. Hiermee kunnen we zien of de kinderen klaar zijn om te starten met het lees- en spellingprogramma van groep 3/klas 1  (year 2). Daarnaast hebben zijn we gestart met het thema kamperen.
