Week Beginning 1 February 2016

As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations, students are invited to come to school wearing something red or Chinese costume on Friday 5 February.

  • There will be NO PRIMARY ECA PROGRAMME ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, NOR PRIMARY BISS LIONS SWIMMING ON THURSDAY. BISCAP and CISSA sessions will run as normal.  Bus children will go home on the earlier school buses on these days.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
  • Uniform sale:  We will be having another Used Uniform sale on Tuesday 2 Feb 2016 3.30pm-4.30pm in The Gallery. Please bring any clean, good quality, old uniforms to the Primary Reception over the next few weeks.

In Literacy Year 5 will move from diaries to biographies. The children will look at the features of biographies and apply them to their own writing. Using timelines that were created for homework the initial task will be to write a short biography about one of the other members of the class.  The children will then research the famous explorer Marco Polo as the subject for their next biography. Their research will help them to decide if he was the type of person that they would like to travel with.

In Maths we will be learning how to practice our division skills. Pupils will learn mental and written methods for division and will be asked to solve word problems using the operation of division. Children will also relate division and multiplication facts together and discuss the importance of knowing these number facts.

In Themed Learning we will continue our Silk Road topic. Pupils will design Hanfu clothes and will study examples of Chinese art to inspire their own designs. These initial ideas will be refined in order to make a final Hanfu design. We will also continue to add to our class timeline by studying important historical events from the Silk Road. In Art we will develop a variety of brush stroke techniques and apply these to make a beautiful water colour piece of art.  Children will also have an opportunity to participate in a Chinese New Year activity delivered by our talented Learning Assistants.

Koken, bakken, braden...

Year 5 Spanish -  Ms Ormond
The students have discussed many hobbies in Spanish and shared their opinions on those that they love and those that they detest. This week the students will continue learning more about TV and film vocabulary, and participate in a hobby that they all love; cooking!

Year 5 French - Miss Rae
Next week we will be continuing our sport unit. We will be giving opinions about sport and why we like them or dislike them. Children will plan and write a short presentation to deliver to the class about their favourite sports.
Homework this week is to log on to the Global Campus and log into the French forum, pour les francophones. Look at the discussion and draft a response about what you are learning about at school in French. Do not post these yet, bring them in for Miss Rae to look at first! We will post them together next week.

Year5 and Year 6 Tiger/ Horse/ Monkey/Panda/Native

We will be introducing main traditional customs of celebrating Chinese New Year to our students. Students will be writing the Spring Scrolls to decorate their houses.
