Week Beginning 5 February 2018

  • Class Dojo - We will be setting up a new reward system in class. The children will earn behaviour points and house points for making fantastic choices!
  • Chinese New Year - We’re so excited about our Chinese New Year celebrations and hope that you will enjoy the Temple Fair this weekend. We will be looking at traditional cultures and clothing, as well as making and enjoying some Chinese snacks this week! See you on Thursday at 9.15 for our special Reception Chinese New Year show.
  • Old pots and pans - It is so exciting that we have a lovely music area in the outdoor space. We have been exploring different sounds from various materials, and we like how metal sounds! If you have any old cooking pots and pans at home that you no longer want, please could you send them in for us to bang?

It’s (almost) Chinese New Year!

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD: People and the Community

Celebrations are almost here! What an exciting time of year to be in Shanghai! We will be looking at all the things that happen around the New Year celebrations, and will be enjoying joining in with them. Let us know if you have any special celebrations or family traditions you can share.

Ordinal numbers are so important at this time of the year! We have really enjoyed learning about the Great Race for the Chinese Zodiac and we are now looking at the different numbers we have to use to know who is going to be the winner. We will be rehearsing putting numbers in order and counting them forwards and backwards.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT: Moving and handling

We will be so active this week! We will be dancing, moving, rolling and learning to control our movements in large and small ways, as well as moving confidently in a variety of ways while negotiating space. We will also be chefs making delicious spring rolls! To do this, we will handle tools carefully to manipulate the food so it is ready to eat!

Making invitations

Using our growing knowledge of phonics to write words that match the spoken sounds we can hear, we will be drafting invitations to our Chinese New Year show! We will be practising reading back the words that we have written to check they make sense.

We will talk about what special food do we eat during Chinese New Year.
