Week Beginning 11 December 2017

  • Wednesday 13 December- Festive Frock Day, Christmas Dinner and Class Parties.
  • Friday 15 December – last day of term.

In Literacy we will use our letter writing skills to write a letter to Santa Clause.  Children will be encouraged to use capital letters, finger spaces and the correct punctuation.  Confident writers will be extended through descriptive language.  We will also follow instructions to make Christmas biscuits, yummy!

Letter, purpose, dear, from, address, instruction

In Maths we will continue to learn about recording data.  The children are collating their own data as well as describing what they have learnt from different graphs.  We will also transfer information from one graph to another.

Data, information, chart, graph, survey, bar charts, tally charts, block graphs, Venn diagrams

It is our turn to visit the Da Vinci centre.  There is a great buzz around the year group as it is such a fantastic opportunity for the children to think abstractly and enhance their problem solving skills.  The children will be tasked with creating a raft or boat out of a range of materials.  They will collaborate with their peers to make their own boat, they will test it, and see how they can improve their idea.  The children will have to use their knowledge of materials and trial and error skills to create the best boat they can.

Team work, challenge, turns, collaboration, float, sink, heavy, light, plastic, cardboard

The children are using the paint programme to design and create their own Christmas cards.
