MESSAGES

  • Giving Tree – Each year, Giving Tree aims to provide children in need with a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies.  Please support this worthwhile cause.
  • We kindly ask that parents stay in the playground in the mornings and encourage their child to come up to their classroom with their teacher and class.
  • We are still missing some photographs for our timelines – please refer to the note in the Communication Book so that all children can partake in the activity with their own photographs.

LITERACY

This week we will continue to work on developing the children’s knowledge of sentence structure and using a variety of writing tecniques to make it informative and interesting to the reader. We will be looking at this through the lens of a personal recount, and will be asking the children to make sure they are using capital letters in the correct places, leaving a finger space between words and ending in a full stop. Students will be encouraged to think about  what adjectives (descriptive words) they can incorporate into their writing.

KEY VOCABULARY

Capital letter, finger space, full stop, vocabulary, recount, adjective

MATHS

For the next two weeks, we will continue to work on developing the children’s knowledge of number, focusing specifically on counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We will also continue to focus on correct number formation where required.

KEY VOCABULARY

Number, skip, pattern, forwards, backwards, addition, subtraction

STEAM THEME

This week Year 1 will be working in the Da Vinci Centre. This is the first time Year 1 will be in the center and the children and teachers are very excited about having this opportunity. Whilst in the Da Vinci Centre, the children will be making frames for their personal photographs, that they will then need to sequence as a time line. It would be very helpful if you spoke to your child about what age they were when their photos were taken and give them some information about where the photos were taken. The children are encouraged to be creative in how they make their frames and will be given a wide variety of resources that they can use to make them. Children will have the opportunity to use an iPad to make a digital frame as well as lego and craft materials.

KEY VOCABULARY

Time line, photographs, grow, order, frames, creativity

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

The children will continue to master the skill of logging themselves on and off of a computer or laptop. Using either a laptop or iPad, students will begin to explore coding by using different software and apps.

KEY VOCABULARY

Coding, instructions, left, right, forwards, backwards

PSHCE

During circle time we will discuss the importance of looking after our things, how we should look after them and consequences for if we don’t. Whilst in the Divinci Centre next week, this will be an excellent opportunity for students to practice sharing and being respectful of each other and  resources.

KEY VOCABULARY

Respect, cooperation, share, care, choices, please, thank you, consequences
