Week Beginning 26 March 2018

MESSAGES

  • International Week – Week beginning 26 March. Please join us on:
  • Monday 26 March 8:25am in the Primary Playground as we begin our International Week with a song.
  • Thursday 29 March 9:00am for our International Parade, we encourage all children (and adults) to come dressed in special clothing from their home country or country of their choice. Our Chatterbox café will be open for refreshments during this time.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we are continuing to develop comprehension skills and our next handwriting letter focus; h & b. Our key focus within comprehension is the use of he and she within sentence writing but particularly within oral English.

MATHS

In Maths this week we will be learning about data handling skills. The data that we will look at will be graph based and linked to our international week. The children will revise and learn more about tally charts, the marking of 5 items to create a tally and how to interpret what a tally chart is telling us. We will extend this further by creating our own tally charts and generating a block graph with the results.

STEAM THEME

For STEAM this week, we will discuss and learn about what being ‘international’ really means. We will refresh and revise which countries we are from and where they are in the world. As part of our learning the whole of Year 1 will be creating a Diversity Quilt. Each child will complete part of the quilt with something that they feel represents their country; perhaps their home flag, some traditional food or even some of the language that they speak.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

In our final week of coding and data the children will be provided with problems that need to be fixed or edited. This will act as an evaluative session to support what coding skills the children have developed across the unit.
