- Chinese New Year Dress up Day – Friday 9 February! Come to school dressed in Chinese-dress, red clothes or anything related to the upcoming Year of the Dog! 🐶 Join us before school in the primary playground where we will enjoy a Lion dance to celebrate the New Year.
As our theme study of ‘Around the World in 80 days’ continues, this week we will be learning about China. We will use the Zodiac signs as stimuli for artistic creations. The children will have the opportunity to extend their art skills in painting and printing.

In Literacy we will be linking our Theme STEAM lessons to Literacy. Our main focus this week is the traditions behind the Chinese New Year celebration. We will read through the famous story of the Zodiac signs, and then the children will have the opportunity to act it out, before writing a re-enactment, with a focus on using bossy verbs.

In Maths this week we will introduce British money. The children will aim to recognise the coins and match them to their values. This will also incorporate role play scenarios such as a shop, as well as adding and subtraction opportunities.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY
We are learning to instruct a Beebot to complete a series of movements, challenging the children to write and record their own algorithm.

Our focus changes to the upcoming New Year celebrations, focusing on the wide traditions and beliefs. The children will discuss their own Zodiac signs and have opportunities to liaise with their classmates in designing and decorating their own masks.
