Week Beginning 27 March 2017

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country!  We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.

  • We will be celebrating International Week through song! Please join us for International singing in the Primary School playground at 8.25am on Wednesday  29 March.
  • Our annual International Week Parade will be  on Friday 31 March.  The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice,  face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there.
  • On Wednesday March 29th Neil Griffiths, a well-known children’s book author will be visiting the school to work with KS1 and Early Years. He will be retelling his stories and encouraging the children to participate in an interactive presentation.

  • Please be aware that the ECA/ BISCAP/Swimming programmes have now finished.  The Term 3 programme will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Thursday 16 June.
  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat now that the temperature has dropped.

International Week Activities

Next week the Year 2 will be rounding off the term by embracing International Week. The children will be taking part in series of lessons across all subject areas.

During International Week, we will be discussing how cultures vary in different countries. Among the activities, students will learn a song from a different country and practise some greetings in a different language. Year 2 will learn about Indian Art. We will look at beautiful Rangoli art designs and try to recreate them with salt and black paper!

The children will taste and identify the foodstuffs used to make the Latin specialty “Guacamole’. They will then use the given ingredients to make their own bowl of guacamole in groups of 4.  Each class will then evaluate the guacamole made by each group. As a follow up, the children will then find out where avocados come from and identify these countries on a world map. After eating their Guacamole the children will learn a dance to the Latin hit Waka Waka!

We will also learn and write about the English folklore hero Robin Hood! The children will be thinking about the moral question "Is it good to steal?" by thinking about the legend of Robin Hood, the famous folk tale from England. They will be working in groups to discuss opinions and justify their answers by referring to real-life and fictional situations.

The teachers will teach the children playground games and discuss what it means to be a good friend.
