Week Beginning 12 September 2016

Thursday 15 and Friday 16 are school holidays and we return on Monday 19 September.


  • Class Room Parents wanted. If you would to volunteer to be a Class Room Parent then please contact your child’s class teacher.
  • Parent Readers wanted. If you would to volunteer to Parent Reader with children in Year 4 then please contact your child’s class teacher.
  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays.  For the first week, homework is optional and entries can be brought in any time before Wednesday 9 September.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks.You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • ECA and BISCAP confirmation letters have been sent. Both programmes will begin on Monday 12 September.


It was lovely to read the children’s own creative endings to chapter 4 last week, and this week we will find out Ted Hughes’ version, as we continue reading and working on The Iron Man. The week will begin with a  drama session in which the children will act out how they think the Iron Man will go on to save the day.  They will then have time to put these ideas into a plan, so as to structure their writing into a beginning, middle, and end  in preparation for their weekly extended writing task.

This week, the children will be reviewing and extending their understanding of place value. Looking at four digit numbers and beyond, we will be investigating what exactly constitutes each number and how it is structured. They will put this knowledge into practise via challenges against each other.

Students will continue their presentations on the most important. We will continue to look at Leonardo Da Vinci’s technical drawings and create our own annotated sketches  of a flying machine. Students will design and plan a scientific experiement reflecting on a ‘fair test’.

This week we will be looking at the programme Microsoft word and what features it has that we can use to improve our work. We will be focusing on a piece of writing “All About Me” and how we can edit, improve and save the document.

De medewerkers van KS2 van Reisbureau SDS blijken zeer ervaren reizigers die fantastisch kunnen putten uit eigen ervaringen bij het oriënteren, plannen en beschrijven van hun reis voor de reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. . De leerlingen werken deze week aan hun reisprogramma: een beschrijving van dag-tot-dag incl. details over slaapplekken, kosten, vluchten, etc.

Year 4 Spanish – Ms Watson

This week we will be learning how to describe animals using colours and we will review introducing ourselves extending it to age and where they live.
For homework the students will need to revise the vocabulary from the weeks lessons and spend 5 minutes a day on Duolingo.

Year  4 French:  Miss Wood

Next week we shall be reviewing body parts, describing characters and consolidating the days of the week. Vocabulary will be reinforced by making matching games.
Homework this week is to review the names of common classroom objects, completing the identification chart.

Year  3/ 4 Native French:  Mrs Rickford

La semaine prochaine, nous allons travailler sur le vocabulaire de la classe et continuer à faire de la compréhension écrite avec le texte “Pourquoi les gommes n’ont-elles pas de pattes?”. Nous travaillerons sur le son “O”. Pour les devoirs, les élèves  vont faire deux exercices pour renforcer leur orthographe des mots avec le son “o”.

Year  3/ 4 Native German:  Ms Brannasch

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir das ABC und die alphabetische Reihenfolge in unserer Klasse (mit den Namen) wiederholt und geübt. Später haben wir ein Gedicht mit Ausdruck vorgelesen und in Paaren auswendig zu erzählen geübt.
Zu Hause sehen sich die Kinder den Text „Der Neue“ im Booklet an und machen die Aufgaben wie auf den Extrablättern angegeben, die die Schüler in ihren Plastikmappen haben.
