We are currently working on class lists for 2017-18 and will share these with you during the week beginning 12 June.

As is our practice, we aim to provide stability for our students by moving them up with their existing classes where possible, while also taking account to ensure that classes are balanced. Following the issue of the class lists, it will be possible to meet with Ms Jess should you have any questions. However, we ask for your trust in us that that all decisions taken are in the best interests of all the children and your understanding that we cannot meet requests of individual parents.

  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottles to avoid items getting lost in school.
  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.


This week, the children will be applying their knowledge of playscripts and changing their own narratives in to a playscript. Once the children have changed their stories in to a playscript, they will perform it using tone and expression when acting. This will be aided by the setting descriptions, scenes and performing guidelines they have been learning about. After performing the playscripts, the children will be able to discuss effective performance techniques and re-tell the stories they saw using comprehension skills.

In maths this week the children will be looking at Shape and Space. They will be identifying properties of 2D shapes and thinking about the terminology used to name them and describe them. They will also be looking at symmetry and where it is found in real life situations with flags and mirrors. They will be challenged to draw certain 2D shapes on isometric paper accurately and identify properties as well as dissecting triangles and completing investigations.

This week we will be moving on to Science in Themed Learning.  All explorers enjoy a nice hot cup of tea when out and about and the children will have the chance to explore materials and their insulating properties to ensure their drink stays as warm as possible.  They will be provided with materials and an explanation of the task but will have to come up with their own investigation to find out which material keeps liquid warm the best.  A key part of the week will be our discussions on fair tests and the students ensuring the investigation they create is fair.

This week the students will begin to plan, design and make model survival shelters.  They will have a variety of materials available to them to complete their model structures.  They will initially plan through sketching, considering how best to use the cocktail sticks to create a supportive frame.  This may be a free standing frame or can be leaned up against an object taking the place of a tree.  They will then have the opportunity to explore a range of materials to create the exterior of their shelter.

The exciting learning opportunity continues with teaching the children how to code using the App ‘Hopskotch’. This will continue throughout the term leading children to design and create their own games. They will continue creating a game ‘Which explorer are you?

In het wild

De leerlingen van KS2 werken aan het thema ‘In het wild’. In dit thema doen leerlingen rollenspellen, maken ze een stripverhaal over een zelfverzonnen avontuur of aflevering van Freek in het Wild en maken ze een vlog van een ode aan hun favoriete dier, geïnspireerd op de boeken ‘Zij de cobra, wij de adder’ (Y3 en 4) en ‘stem op de okapi’ (Y5 en 6).  


Deze week maken de leerlingen het gros van de Cito-toetsen. De onderdelen begrijpend en technisch lezen, spelling en woordenschat worden getoetst.

Leerlingen kunnen niet voor de toetsen leren, maar het wekelijkse huiswerk van SDS  is een goede Cito-training.De leerlingen worden vooral aangemoedigd om extra spelling te oefenen met BLOON (, inlognaam is SDSyear3 of SDS year4 of SDSyear5 of SDSyear6, wachtwoord spellen). Het trainen van spelling is een kwestie van herhaling. 

Ook het maken van de Nieuwsbegripopdrachten online is een goede oefening.

Next week we will continue to study and learn Spanish through stories and songs. The focus will be on pronunciation and listening skills in order to develop fluency. This week for homework students will be writing their own stories using the characters and vocabulary they have been learning.

Im Unterricht beschäftigten wir uns mit den langen und kurzen Selbstlauten sowie doppelten Mitlauten. Das ist die Wiederholung fuer den Test naechste Woche. Zu Hause sollen die Kinder die Seite 51 im Booklet machen „Tag und Nacht“, „Tag und Woche“ und natürlich fleiβig lesen.
