The grammar focus this week is direct speech. Throughout the week year 4 will look at and practise punctuating and setting speech out correctly, remembering to start a new line for a new speaker. They will also build up a word bank of different ways to say ‘said’.  They will also continue fantasy stories, as the progress to learning about and then writing the middle section, which will include a problem, and some terribly undesirable characters!  Once written the children will have a chance to read through, edit, and up-level the middle parts of their fantasy stories.

Speech marks, comma, show not tell, adjectives, fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrase

This week the children will be looking at fractions. We will begin by recapping the key vocabulary for fractions and how to find a fraction of a whole, within a shape. Following this, we will study fractions and their equivalent amounts by using times and divide calculations to find equivalent fractions. The children will then look at calculations and how to apply these along with images to support the recognition of equivalent fractions.

This week in the students of Year 4 will take on the roles of architects and electricians as they are challenged to design and create a model apartment with light bulbs, a doorbell and switches to operate them.

This week the children will be completing their work on Espresso programming and putting all of their skills into practice to make their own games. They will get an opportunity to play each other’s games and investigate changing the backgrounds and themes.  They will also be given the opportunity to use Microsoft Word and put into practice their new typing skills they have developed using Dance Mat Typing. They will use Word to publish the introduction to the Fantasy stories they have written in Literacy, adding pictures and re-sizing them to illustrate their work.

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

Vroeger was alles ...
