ECA/BISCAP/BISSLIONS Swimming Term 2: will start on Monday 16 January.

  • Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everyone!
  • Thursday 26 January will be the annual ‘Wear Red Day’ for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There will also be a Dragon dance at approximately 8:30am (once buses have arrived).  Parents are welcome to watch.
  • On Tuesday Year 5 will be having their entry point for our exciting new topic, The Silk Road. This event will allow children to experience some of the emotions and feelings that travellers experienced whilst travelling along the Silk Road.  Keep an eye out for our blog post this week with photogrpahs of this exciting experience.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

This week in Literacy we will begin looking at diaries; their features and the different styles. We will compare those from a modern time setting to ones from selected historical periods. The children will then plan and create a modern diary entry incorporating all the features and with a particular focus on using the Present Perfect Tense.

Children will solve problems involving scale and rates, noticing and extending patterns. They will explain and explore how recepies can be made for larger and smaller amounts and will be encouraged to use the correct units of measure, efficient calculating methods, decimal place value and appropriate remainders.

This term our new Themed Learning topic is the Silk Road. The children  will start to learn about this important trade route. This week we will have our exciting Entry Point to the topic. The children will be be trading the goods at the market (souk) that they made last week and will carry these whilst taking part in a fun journey throughout the school. Along their journey they will encourter many obstacles along their way. This experience will help them to imagine what it was like to make this journey and they will encounter some of the challenges of trading and bargaining to buy the goods that they need. It promises to be an exciting experience!

We are continuing our E-safety unit by looking at other hazards children might encounter when online.  We will look at the correct definitions for these and discuss different scenarios that might occur and safe strategies to use if it happens.  Finally we will collate our knowledge into an E-Safety leaflet.

We bereiden ons tevens voor op de Cito-toets die vanaf 13 februari zal worden afgenomen. We toetsen de onderdelen technisch en begrijpend lezen, woordenschat en spelling. Deze week zullen we veel spellingcategorieën herhalen.
