ECA/BISCAP/BISSLIONS Swimming Term 2: will start on Monday 16 January.

  • Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everyone!
  • Thursday 26 January will be the annual ‘Wear Red Day’ for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There will also be a Dragon dance at approximately 8:30am (once buses have arrived).  Parents are welcome to watch.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
  • On Thursday 19 January we will be going on a trip to the Shanghai Botanical Garden. Please ensure your child has warm clothes and a waterproof coat. The children are welcome to bring a healthy snack for the bus journey.

In our second week of Literacy we will be continuing a series of lessons investigating information texts and how opinions differ from facts.  We will be interrogating some high quality non-fiction books to discover how important our oceans are for life on Earth.  We  will then be looking at how these are formatted and arranged on the page with headings, sub-headings, quotes and captions.  We will then be building to writing our own text about man’s impact on the planet.

Fact, opinion

In our second week of Maths we will be investigating area and perimeter. This will involve a detailed study of how to make accurate calcualtions, using both scale drawings and simple formulae, of the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles. We will then build up to an investigation to see how we can discover the area and perimeter of triangles and composite shapes.

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the second week we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water.

Physical scarcity, economic scarcity, abundance

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.
