Staff Profile: Kitti Vaughan

Kitty Vaughan

Pre-Nursery Teacher

Kitti completed a BSc in Maths, PE and Education at Cheltenham College of Higher Education after working as an accountant for a number of years.  After again returning to accounting, she decided her passion was to work with children and took the leap to complete her dream by abandoning office life to work in a private children’s nursery in Cheltenham. She worked there for 2 years, where she became Head of Pre-school, before returning to complete her PGCE at the University of Gloucestershire.

Kitti has experience in the UK as both a community and SureStart practitioner, as well as a Primary teacher, but has spent most of her teaching life abroad, gaining experience in a range of different schools and curricula in countries such as Italy, Spain, Viet Nam, the UAE and, more recently, Romania.  She has taught throughout Key Stage 1, but her main focus has been in the Early Years Foundation Stage, predominantly in Reception.

Kitti has recently arrived in Shanghai after taking a break from teaching to work as a live-in-volunteer in a children’s home in India for 7 months and is excited about living in China and working for BISS Puxi and joining the Nord Anglia family of schools. She is looking forward to using her vast experience to create an exciting and engaging learning environment for the nursery children.

Kitti is motivated by seeing the children’s achievements, particularly within this young age range, where they make such noticeable progress over an academic year. This encourages her as a teacher to observe the children’s individual progress, and interests and plan accordingly, in order to offer a learning environment that will stimulate the children to learn and progress further.

Kitti enjoys yoga, cycling and photography.  She is a keen walker and can often be found exploring a new area of the city at weekends, or hiking in the nearby countryside or mountains, usually with camera in tow. She is looking forward to exploring more of Shanghai and the surrounding areas, as well as areas further afield in China. Kitti also enjoys experiencing new cultures, and in particular trying the local food, something she is sure there is plenty of here!
