    Elizabeth Westwood

    Head of Primary

    Elizabeth Westwood

Growing up in Birmingham as the youngest daughter of Dr Martin Hadlington, a Chemistry teacher/ Lay Reader and Mrs Carol Hadlington a Nurse, Elizabeth developed an interest in education and a passion for understanding other cultures and religions from an early age. Her leadership skills were evident even then as Head Chorister and as a Warrant Officer in the Girls’ Brigade. After reading Philosophy and World Religions at Westminster College in Oxford she completed her teacher training at the University of Birmingham where she met her husband Joseph. Two years of teaching in Doncaster were followed by her first school leadership position as Head of Philosophy, Religious Studies and PSHE in Grantham at Sir Isaac Newton’s old School. Having completed a Master’s degree in Psychology she had further leadership positions in the UK before embarking on an international teaching career first in Oman and then here at BISS where she had a number of roles including Special Needs Coordinator, Year Leader and Assistant Head of the Primary School.

  • Joseph Westwood

Director of Quality and Inter-School Academics

    Joseph Westwood

After a number of years of home schooling Joseph decided at the age of 11 that he wanted to be the manager of the world’s first fusion power plant. In order to achieve this goal, he first attended secondary school in Milton Keynes before completing a BSc in Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics followed by a MSc in the Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors both at the University of Birmingham. Unfortunately, the world of science had not made the required progress and with the first commercial fusion reactor still a number of years away from construction he decided that he would instead prepare students who could one day fulfil his dream. During his PGCE year he met Elizabeth to whom he has been married since 2002.
