Elena has now lived in Shanghai since 2015 with her husband, a music teacher at BISS, and her two children, both of who also attend BISS. Elena joined the ‘Special Educational Needs’ team at BISS in 2017 and worked, on a one-to-one basis, with several students, providing them with individualised learning support, and working closely with members of staff across the primary school. Since 2019 Elena has taught across several different Reception and Nursery classes at BISS, including being the Reception Aardvarks class teacher in the Autumn and Summer terms of 2019/20.
Elena is fluent in three languages - English, Russian and Romanian - and is still working on developing her Mandarin. Elena believes that her experiences in language learning have given her an excellent understanding of how children learn and develop their own language skills.
Outside of work, Elena is a keen baker and enjoys creating tasty food for all of her family, and, occasionally, her colleagues too! In her free time, Elena can be found tending to her garden, along with spending time painting and creating many wonderful arts and crafts with her children.
