Leslie has been teaching Early Years education in Shanghai’s international education system for almost five years. Her teaching experience in Shanghai prior to commencing working at BISS Puxi has been as an Early Years teacher at a nearby international school. Before teaching in China, Leslie taught in Thailand, where she was, and still is, part of an amazing NGO (Non-Governtment Organisation). She had the opportunity to mentor and teach English to a group of young girls who werer part of an anti-human trafficking organisation. Leslie graduated with a B.AS from the USA. She is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish fluently.
As an educator, Leslie likes to live by the inspirational words of Fred Rogers, “Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me.” She believes that learning is a life long process and, as a teacher, we can learn so much from our students on a daily basis. She really enjoys interacting with her students outside of the classroom as well as inside, finding joy in seeing them explore and interact with others throughout the day. Leslie believes that students need guidance, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well, and strongly believes in the values and benefits of self-expression and mindfulness. She also believes that students should be taught the joy of just ‘being’. Leslie is very passionate about teaching in Early Years and is confident in the skills and experiences that she brings as a teacher to her classroom environment.
Outside of work, Leslie enjoys traveling, as well as staying active. She also practises yoga and meditation on a daily basis.
