Staff Profile: Sally Watson

Sally Watson

Year 6 Class Teacher

Sally completed her Post Graduate Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Griffith University in Australia and immediately relocated to the United Kingdom in order to take up a teaching position in London. She worked in various schools in the London area for five years gaining most of her experience in a very culturally diverse, inner city school in Hammersmith. During this time Sally met her husband, Matt.

Desiring to experience and immerse themselves in a different climate and culture, Sally and Matt moved to Penang, Malaysia where Sally taught for 3 years in a vibrant, multicultural international primary school.

Before joining the team at BISS Puxi, Sally was teaching at an international school in Qatar. Her role as the literacy coordinator provided an opportunity to introduce her colleagues to the planning and philosophy changes to the curriculum regarding all areas of literacy. In addition, she organised whole school events that promoted reading, writing and drama in the school and the wider community.

Sally’s teaching style is all about getting children involved and actively participating in their learning. She is very enthusiastic about teaching all subjects and encourages students to challenge themselves and try new activities. She promotes higher order thinking skills in her classroom in which children are expected to actively think about their learning and express their thoughts and opinions confidently in order to explain their understanding of what they have learned.

Sally is a world traveller and explorer who, with her husband, has lived and travelled in many different parts of the world and is fascinated by the different cultures she has experienced. She enthusiastically takes part in traditional celebrations, exploring the different types of food, music and activities, and collects traditional costumes and numerous forms of artwork from the destinations she has visited.

Sally has a real appreciation of the arts. When travelling or in the UK you will often find Sally in an art gallery or watching a live performance. She is a huge fan of the Tate Modern and will always fit in at least one visit when in London along with a Shakespeare play at the Globe.

At home, Sally is often cooking and reading. She originally had an interest in history and biography, has recently worked her way through many of the classics and is currently hooked on the ‘Game of Thrones’ series. Sally’s creative side is revealed through her cooking. Her husband often has to try her experimental dishes that are generally inspired by Jamie Oliver and Rachel Khoo.
