Matthew Charlton
BE.d (Hons), Primary Education
Matthew studied for four years at the University of Bedfordshire where he gained a BA (Hons) in Primary Education. After graduating, he worked in Bedford, England, pursuing a career in primary teaching with a keen interest in developing scientific skills and inquiry along with helping children become independent learners across all subjects.
Wanting to understand new cultures and learn more about the world, he left England for China in 2014 to live and teach in Shanghai. Whilst here, he has been fortunate to teach both the British National Curriculum and the IB PYP Curriculum across a range of Key Stage 2 year groups. For two years, Matthew helped lead and develop those schools further as a Key Stage 2 Leader and Science Coordinator.
Any student in his class will soon learn about his geeky side. He has a keen interest in books and is very often seen with his nose buried in fiction. He enjoys a wide range of books, but does have a specific interest in fantasy and sci-fi; but you will quickly learn he is addicted to Harry Potter. Along with books, Matthew enjoys playing games, both board games and video games, where he enjoys the feeling of competition and overcoming the challenges they present. When he has time, at the weekends or during holidays, there is nothing he enjoys more than getting out of the city, hiking, exploring nature or going on an adventure.
