I was pleased to see so many primary families at the BBGV Fun Run last Sunday; the Union Jack t-shirts made members of our community highly visible. Lots of planning and preparation has been going on this week to ensure we are all ready for our annual big focus on reading. Please see further details below and check your child’s class blog.
Our Community Links
The British International School, has a core commitment to the all-round (holistic) development of each child. Through a range of planned community service and fund raising activities the school aims to provide appropriate opportunities for the students to develop a respectful and caring sense of social responsibility towards other people and the environment on both a local and global scale.
Our specific aim this year is to build meaningful relationships between BIS children and organisations which will become our community partners. This week was an exciting time for BIS as we have made a link with Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the blind. Our Year 2 children welcomed their guests to the large learning area which had been cleared of furniture and filled with activities suitable for learning together. Some of our BIS children showed an amazing sense of caring and played happily alongside those who are blind or visually impaired. Others were a little shy or cautious to begin with until they realised that being blind doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!
Our main events for next week include:
Coffee morning for parents at 8:15am on Monday
followed by an ‘Opening Extravaganza’ led by our two visiting British authors, Steve Skidmore and Steve Barlow
- Poster competition and Extreme Reading competition
- A special, crazy fine dining with Willy Wonka and the Oompa Lumpas for the lucky Golden Ticket winners
- A visiting book shop in the library on Wednesday and Thursday.
10:45 pm on Friday
- End of week celebratory assembly at
(parents are welcome)
- Book Character Costume Day on Friday
