Mr Anthony Rowlands Weekly Update 30th October

30 October 2015

It is hard to believe that we are now well into the first term of this academic year and the school is progressing very well. Students are into their routines and are very focused on their school work both in the classroom and whilst participating in the many activities that we offer. The school prides itself on ensuring that we offer a quality academic programme to our students. This is evident when you walk around the school each day and see all the wonderful learning and teaching that takes place in each classroom. This is also evident in regard to student achievement. I was thrilled to hear of the success of Nguyen Ngoc Minh (Y12) and Le Tran Thu Thao (Y13) in relation to the

CIE Annual Awards

Along with the quality academic programme we also pride ourselves on the variety of events that we offer as a school. Two examples of such wonderful events took place this week. On Tuesday, in conjunction with the British Embassy Hanoi, we held an awareness day for “Remembrance Sunday” which will take place on the 11

November. This is a special day in the UK calendar and, increasingly world-wide, where men and women who died fighting in various wars are remembered. Leading up to this day poppies are sold and worn as a symbol of respect to the many people who have died. We were grateful to be joined by Captain Tim Below and Staff Sergeant Rab Durrant from the British Embassy who spent the day at the school to enlighten our students regarding the importance and significance of this day. I am also grateful to Mr Kev Halpin, our Community Liaison Officer, for organising this wonderful day.

On Thursday afternoon we held our annual “BIS has Talent” event and what a great event it was. We had nine outstanding acts. The judging team of myself, Ms Hill and Mr Short had the extremely difficult task of deciding the two Key Stage commendations and the overall winners. After a great deal of discussion we decided on:

-   KS3 Commendation & Audience Award - Chae Won (Y7B) and Susan (Y9B)  who performed a great K-Pop style dance

-   KS4 Commendation – The Plague Rock Band (Hop Long -Y11I / Phuong Long-Y11I/ Phuong Linh-Y11S/ Duy Minh-Y11S/ Jones Binh-Y11S/ Quoc Huy-Y12S) who performed the song ‘Rather Be’

-   Overall Winners – Connection by Tuan Kiet & Quy An (12I) who devised and performed a wonderful Abstract Drama scene.

It was such a wonderful event. Congratulations to all our performers and to the Performing Arts department for putting it all together.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mr Anthony Rowlands, Principal
