Year 10 & 12B Dalat trip 2015

06 November 2015

We have now been to Dalat with Year 10 and 12B on three separate occasions. The reason we keep going back? Because it really is a fantastic trip where students get to take part in activities that they wouldn’t normally have taken part in and experience something very different from their usual Hanoi life. Not only do they get to do this with their friends, but they get to do this is in, in my opinion, one of Vietnam’s most beautiful areas.

For the first two days we were basked in sunlight at our campsite and where students we able to take part in a variety of rope courses - this is where they wear harnesses and are able to climb various obstacles under complete safety and guidance of experienced activity leaders. It usually involves the students jumping off platforms and being held by the rope, suspended in mid-air and several shrieks coming from the mouths of onlookers. Before leaving our home of Nam Qua campsite students also took part in one of the more amusing parts of their visit - as a spectator at least - the raft building contest. This typically involves students building a raft with basic materials and then attempting to row the raft around a buoy and back to mainland, usually being partially sunk throughout the race. As I said, a very funny sight for staff, but equally fun for students taking part.

Our third day started off with a beautiful clear day travelling to the Langbiang mountains. For most of the day we had great weather before the very changeable Dalat weather turned for the worst as students were either walking on the mountain or abseiling off it. Despite this, students persevered well and were never in poor spirits. Possibly because we were due to check into our last nights lovely accommodation which had most importantly hot water. After students cleaned themselves up we headed out for dinner before a restful night in preparation for our last day visiting museums, waterfalls and pagodas across Dalat city.

As usual, it was an absolute pleasure taking away our students again to Dalat as they keep proving how much they step up to challenges, support each other and learn to integrate and appreciate one another. Despite the forgetful nature of our students and their possessions, they were excellent throughout. I should also mention how integral our staff were to the trip and how they worked with and supported every student throughout. Without these people to support our students, the trip would simply not be what it was.
