Quite unbelievably, we are almost at the end of the first term of this academic year. When I reflect on the last few months, it is amazing what we have achieved. We have undertaken the process of CIS accreditation after our successful pre-accreditation visit last May. All our staff, parents and students will participate in this process which began in September with a CIS online survey which was undertaken by students, staff and parents. We received the survey results at the beginning of October and we are using these, along with the findings of the pre-accreditation report, to help develop our “roadmap” towards full accreditation. Some working groups have already begun working on different aspects of this very worthwhile process.
This has been another busy week as we hosted a visit from the International Baccalaureate (IB). After an 18 month process, two IB visitors spent three days with us analysing whether we are ready to offer the IB Diploma Programme. We anticipate knowing the findings of this visit by the beginning of February. As soon as I do know the outcome I will immediately inform the school community.
Additionally, this term, we successfully became members of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). FOBISIA is a federation made up of the most prestigious British type schools in Asia and we are proud to be members.
Prior to the school opening in 2012, I was always asked by potential parents about how, and with whom, we were going to achieve accreditation. At BIS Hanoi we have not taken any short cuts; we have aligned ourselves with three high quality international organisations – CIS, IB and FOBISIA, which is a very impressive accomplishment for a school that is not yet four years old.
This evening (Friday, 11
December) I am proud to say that 22 of our students will be performing musical items at the BBGV Christmas Function which is being held at the UK Ambassador’s Residence. I will be there along with 30 or so BIS staff members supporting our wonderful students.
On that festive note, I would like to wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Mr Anthony Rowlands, Principal
