Mr Christopher Short Weekly Update 19th June

18 June 2015

What a great week in the BIS Secondary Section. We had our third Challenge Day on Tuesday and it was a great success. The Maths department had been teaching codes to Years 7 – 10 for the last few lessons but the students didn’t know why. On Tuesday morning they were somewhat surprised to see that

had taken over the school and brainwashed the teachers. Mr Rowlands and I ushered all the students straight to the Auditorium where the slightly bemused participants watched the introductory video and presentation by the 4 Overlords of SHAM (Mr Airdrie, Ms Cargill, Ms Orchard and Mr O’Reilly!). The first aim of the day was to work together in House teams to solve various codes to release the ‘captured’ teachers. Each year group had only been taught one code so the House had to involve everyone to solve the problem. The second part of the day saw some members of the House creating codes with their Maths teachers while others solved other codes using Science in our labs. The day culminated with all the House teams back together again making a display of their day’s work; congratulations to Hanoi who emerged victorious. A huge amount of work went into planning and running the day so my thanks go to the Heads of the Department involved (Science, History, Art and Maths), the Year 12 helpers and Mr Airdrie for coordinating the whole event.

We also had Sprint Maths this week which is now a firm fixture on the inter-house calendar; thanks also to Mr Airdrie for organising this.  Holiday soon!
