Mr Christopher Short Weekly Update 26.02.2016

26 February 2016

Many thanks to all the parents who attended our Secondary Parent Information Morning on Tuesday. It was wonderful to see so many parents keen to contribute to our review communities that we have set up in school. We are very proud of what we have achieved in the last 3 ½ years but it is really important that we maintain a culture of constant improvement and engage all members of the school community. We have a saying in our Student Council; “We always get our say, we don’t always get our way”. We will collate all the responses and give each one careful thought but we must, of course, fold this into our overall review programme and so not every idea or suggestion will necessarily be implemented.

The Bronze DoEIA practice expedition went very well last weekend. There were some tired legs in school on Monday morning but a real sense of accomplishment. Many thanks to all the staff for supporting this invaluable activity; led by Mr Dunwell.

The Silver DoEIA students gave their feedback presentations this week. This is an important part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award as students pick one aspect of what they have learnt on the expedition and present it to our assessor, Mrs Wild and an audience of other BIS students.

Our Nord Anglia Games and Tanzania expedition students had some of their final preparation this week. The Hong Kong bound athletes had some off site training and their final parents briefing while those heading to Africa had their Yellow Fever jabs; an exciting day out. We can’t wait to see how these inaugural trips go.

We are very excited to be receiving offers for our Year 13 students from universities. Mr Byrne and other members of the Sixth Form team have done a fantastic job in preparing students for this important step in students’ lives. We are so pleased to have Ms Lori Fairbairn joining our team to be our first dedicated University Guidance Counselor. She formally begins work with us in August but will be representing us at two important counselling events in Singapore and the USA before that.
