Mr Anthony Rowlands Weekly Update 4th March

04 March 2016

This has been a very successful week for BIS Hanoi. On Tuesday, we received the wonderful news that the school has been extremely successful in a competition instigated recently by the Nord Anglia Education Global Campus. Students were given a brief to create a video and enter it into a competition using the theme ‘Be Ambitious’. There were 15 prize categories available and BIS Hanoi won three out of the fifteen which were:

The overall winner of the whole competition

- Nguyen Duc Tuan, Nguyen Hoang Minh, Mai Hoang Giang, and Le Tuan Long

Most Innovative Award

- Magnus McKie, Tae Hwan Kim and Lachlan Lao

 Best Interpretation of  Be Ambitious

- Amelia Dodds, Chloe Seo, Jaimie Kang and Jun Beom Heo

The stunning videos produced by our students are available on our Facebook page

. Within the NAE group there are 42 schools, therefore, to achieve this level of success is phenomenal for us and I would like to offer my congratulations to the successful students and all the other students who entered. I am also grateful to the staff who supported the students with these entries and in particular, Mr Thomas Holmes, our NAE Global Campus Coordinator.

This week, a group of students from both Primary and Secondary, ably supported by our staff and parents, have been in Hong Kong representing BIS Hanoi at the very first NAE Global Games. Our students are competing in Athletics, Swimming and Football. The reports that we received during the week indicated that they are showing a great deal of perseverance and sportsmanship leading to some very successful outcomes. Indeed, Mr Short and I travelled to Hong Kong on Friday to attend a CIS conference at the weekend and we were fortunate to see the finale of this wonderful event on Friday afternoon. Next week, you will receive a full report of the exciting events that have been taking place in Hong Kong. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Brian Cooklin and his staff at Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong for putting on such a great event.

Finally, I was so pleased to see a number of senior students participating in a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference held at UNIS this week. Many schools from Vietnam and SE Asia were participating and it was a great experience for our students to be involved in an event that helps develop such key life skills. I was in school when two of our students, Ngoc Minh (Y12) and Cardie (Y12) returned after the first MUN day on Thursday and they were very enthusiastic and positive about what they had experienced.

I do hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Anthony Rowlands, Principal
