Team Xe Dap of BIS Hanoi Teachers

04 March 2016

On April 8

, 7 teachers from BIS Hanoi will set off from the school gates with their sights set on the bright lights of Ho Chi Minh City. Their mode of transit; bicycles. Why?

Vietnam is a spectacular and varied country and what better way to see it firsthand than to pedal between the country’s two major cities. But the journey is not a sightseeing tour. It will be a physical and mental challenge that has taken a great deal of preparation and the major motivation to complete the journey is in an effort to raise money for charity. The group is supporting various charities, the details of which can be found in the link below. The link also contains a blog that will be updated as the departure date approaches and indeed through the duration of the two week ride.

There is a range of emotions being experienced by the members of the group at the moment. There’s a real energy and excitement at the prospect of embarking on what will be a trip that we will remember for the rest of our lives. This is however coupled with a nervous apprehension about taking on an unknown; despite a busy training itinerary, none of us have spent more than 4 consecutive days on a bike – how will it feel pedaling for 2 straight weeks? Keeping us going through the difficult times will be both the prospect of the sense of achievement as we turn the cogs for the last time on arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, but also our commitment to the charities that we are supporting. We hope to be writing another article here in the very near future, talking of our tales and hopefully our success.
