It has been a busy but extremely rewarding week involving many of our students taking part in community service projects this week.

We started off with children from Xa Dan School for the deaf and mute.  Year 5 set up some wonderful activities with a sporty theme; it was inspiring to see our students rising to the challenge finding new ways to interact with our visitors.  Everyone had lots of fun and it was great to see so many smiling faces.  They truly showed a CARING attitude and PERSEVERANCE to find ways to communicate with each other.

On Tuesday our school community came together to meet a couple of celebrities, Paul Blackthorne and Xuan Bac, who had a very important message to deliver which helped to raise awareness for us all as GLOBAL CITIZENS. Next week’s article will focus on this awareness campaign!

I was proud to see our primary children show great RESPECT when 3 Vietnamese veterans came to talk about a subject linking with their current IPC topic on Wednesday.  The veterans are from our new community partner ‘The Friendship Village’ which helps provide medical care for 120 disabled children and 40 veterans who are suffering the effects of Agent Orange.  Our students lived up to another of our Aide Memoire characteristics of ENQUIRY by asking some interesting and emotional questions, the veterans passing on to our children the wonderful message of Peace and Hope for all.

With everything that has been going on in School this week I took a little time out to reflect on our school’s mission statement.

The British International School is a caring and multicultural community that enables all individuals to realise their academic and personal potential in a dynamic and challenging learning environment which values enquiry, perseverance and reflection. At the British International School, we act with integrity and treat one another with respect, learning together as responsible global citizens.

I think once again we have proven and that we should all be very proud that we are focusing on those ideals.
