Interestingly, I am comparing myself this week to the great scientist Albert Einstein. I can already hear the expressions of  surprise and amusement  from  people who know me well when they read that first sentence. Let me explain in a little more detail.

Einstein once said:

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

Albert Einstein quote

The comparison with Einstein does not lie in the realms of being a great physicist as, unfortunately,  it was not a subject I ever came to grips with in school. However, we do compare well with our thoughts about music. I love music and what it brings to the world and Einstein sums up its power wonderfully. I have grown to appreciate all kinds of music as I have got older and am in awe of musicians who bring instruments and songs to life. Watching live performances is a spell binding experience for me and that is what I felt today at our Juilliard Launch. It was a wonderful occasion with stunning performances from our students and invited guest and a fitting occasion to start  our collaboration with Juilliard School New York.

We were pleased that Mr. Nguyen Viet Tu, a well-known and superbly talented Entertainment Producer, started proceedings for us this morning  by giving an insightful outline of  the “Importance of  Performing Arts”. He, and his wife Ms Diu, are really supportive parents of the school and fully  recognise the value of our collaboration with Juilliard School.

This address was followed by an enjoyable, lively and energetic performance by our guest artist -  Violinist  Nguyen Khanh Ngoc Quynh. Next, came a beautiful rendition of “O Mio Babbino Caro” by one of our students Ana Clara Guerrero Ower (Y10) – we were all mesmerized, Ana!  Our second student performance was “Marcello” by Kim Ga Hyeon (Oboe) and Kim Min Ji (Piano) who are both in Y11. The performance was a perfect combination of two beautiful instruments played by wonderfully talented musicians. The next student performance was what the Julliard programme is all about, when Choi Min Kyoung (Y11), Vo Chau Anh (Y11), Kim Su Jeong (Y12) created a vibrant and riveting “Live Loop Composition” with the Violin and Piano. Our final performance came from Park Min Sung (Y9), an extremely talented pianist, who played Chopin’s “Etude Op.10 No.12” with great precision. In between these outstanding performances Ms Laura Rea, who organised this magnificent event, provided us with information about the Julliard programme and the collaboration with BIS Hanoi. We are very grateful to Ms Rea for her hard work and I would also thank all the parents who came to support the Juilliard Launch with us.

In conclusion,  I now  hope that you can understand my comparison to Albert Einstein and I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
