Dear Parents,

The sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post has become one of the most distinctive sounds in the world. Eerie and evocative, it exists beyond all the usual barriers of nation, religion, race and class, charged with the memory of generations of the fallen.

This morning, Year 5 to Year 13 students were joined by our honoured guests from the British Embassy, Staff Sergeant Rab Durrant and Group Captain David Houghton for a special Remembrance Day Assembly. Our audience entered the auditorium to battle sounds which set the scene for a period of reflection on wars gone by. Huy, Khue and Nhi from Year 13 led us through a programme including a poetry recital of The Charge of the Light Brigade delivered by Audrey and a video showing the effects of war. Group Captain Houghton delivered a thought-provoking speech which emphasised that there is no glory in war and how we should all strive to have world peace.

Mr Scott played the Last Post as those assembled were asked to think about members of their own families effected by war. A minute’s silence followed. Our BIS Choir performed two songs during the assembly: Jerusalem and Amazing Grace. The acapella performance and beautiful harmonising really added to the reflective, emotive messages delivered.

UK and Commonwealth Remembrance Service

The choir will be performing once again, tomorrow morning at the Cua Bac Church. All parents are very welcome to attend this official Remembrance Day Service which starts at 10:40 am. Choir members are expected to arrive before 10:15 am.

Fun Run

Thank you so much to all the members of our community who participated in the annual BBGV Fun Run. The weather was a little overcast and showery which added to the decision by the organisers to start the race shortly before the published time. I am sorry if this caused any inconvenience but it was wonderful to see that, those arriving after the official start still managed to complete the 5 km course. Fantastic perseverance – well done BIS!
