Dear Parents

Team Building

The next few weeks are a busy time for Mr Airdrie and the International Award team. There were special presentations during this week’s lunchtime, as students prepared for the bronze, silver and gold awards. Last weekend, the majority of our Year 10 students took to the countryside on a hike and overnight camping trip. They returned with sore feet, aching backs and a wonderful sense of achievement. The trip left the students feeling confident that they can join the impressive number of students at British International School Hanoi who already hold this prestigious award. The award develops independent learning skills and team-building capacity in equal measure and these qualities are essential to success in higher education and business. If your child is in Year 9, please encourage them to get involved in Mr Airdrie’s International Award programme next academic year- the children love it!

Parent Support is Always Appreciated

Thank you to all parents who attended school events this week. We had a fantastic 100% attendance of the Year 12 parents evening. Parents left very contented with the quality of feedback provided by our expert IB teachers. Earlier in the day, a large group of parents attended the third of our parent information mornings. We covered a broad range of topics from assessment to how to evaluate the work of your child’s after-school tutor. In our next meeting, we will be answering your questions about the US Colleges Standardised Tests (SATs) and reporting on the progress of our assessment committee, who are determined to improve the quality of assessment feedback that your child gets from BIS Hanoi’s teachers. If you have a question that you’d like answering, please do not hesitate to email me at

Our Amazing Year 13s!

Very soon we will be enjoying the graduation of our amazing Year 13 A level students. They have been an exceptional cohort and I regret that I have not had the opportunity to work closely with them. They are a special group in many ways and not just because they will be the final group of A level students to graduate from British International School Hanoi. This morning we met with the Year 13 students to discuss ways in which we could make the Year 13 graduation ceremony extra special. We will report on their plans for graduation in a future post but the students’ ideas were fabulous.

The Rigor of BIS Hanoi Recognised by Temple University

The mother Le Tran Thu Thao, former BIS A level student, wrote to us this week to describe Thu Thao’s experience at Temple University, USA. She is doing great! Her mother described how her Temple chemistry professor has praised Thu Thao’s BIS education saying that it has much greater depth than the education of some of her American classmates.
