Dear Parents

The school has been a very busy with visitors, this week. We have enjoyed welcoming our accreditation team from CIS and WASC, as well as Paul Murphy from Juilliard, Jane Larsson (Chief Executive of CIS) and prospective parents, who attended Mr Westropp’s reflections on the enduring value of a British international education.

The accreditation team have been impressed by our school. From the opening Sunday they have commented on how great our students are. They have recognised what we have always known, that our children are a special group of young people. The whole community have been at their best and I’d like to thank all the students, parents, teaching and non-teaching faculty for their effort and insights during the week. We have approached the accreditation visit in the spirit that it is intended, as a self improvement exercise. We have been positive and honest and now look forward to the report, which will help guide us in our next steps towards excellence.

Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers’ Assembly

It was a privilege to attend today’s assembly led by Mr Airdrie (Head of Sixth Form) and Mr Westropp (Head of Key Stage 4). It was a celebration of all the amazing moments that make up the life of students as they progress through school.  It captured the wonderful joy of that shared experience. The students loved it. The assembly concluded with a touching but energetic dance delivered by the Year 13 students who paid tribute to Mr Rowlands’ lasting influence on their lives.

External Examinations

Today will be the final day of lessons for Year 11 and Year 13 students. Their external exams (A level and IGCSE) have now started. The Year 11 students presented for their IGCSE IT exam on Tuesday and Thursday and Year 11 Geographers will present for their exam on Tuesday 2 May. I urge all parents of Year 11 and Year 13 students to ensure that their children arrive at school at least 30 minutes before the official start time of each exam.

Internal Examinations (Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12)

The internal exam week will run from 29 May to the 2 June. It is very important that students begin preparing for these exams as soon as they return from the long weekend. Four weeks of planned revision and study will help the students perform at their best in the internal exams. Subject teachers will be able to provide advice on how to prepare effectively for each subject.

Extra Curricular Activities

The ECA programme began this week. Mr Mark Atkinson (Director of our ECA programme) has once again designed an excellent programme that includes service, sporting, creative and academic opportunities. Academic progress is very important and students must make this their priority. However, participation in a range of activities encourages students to manage their time effectively and provides an opportunity for fresh mental stimulation.
