Dear Parents,

This is our busiest month of the school calendar for events. This morning, we held a special assembly for Remembrance Day. I would like to thank the UK Defence Attaché, Group Captain David Houghton, and Staff Sergeant Adrian Jones for sharing their experiences of war and helping us to remember heroes and bravery as well as the devastating impact war has on communities and countries. The Year 9 students remembered the important role of women during wars worldwide as well as here in Vietnam. The BIS Choir’s emotional rendition of Amazing Grace and I Vow to Thee My Country in addition to the minute’s silence lead by Mr. Halpin provided time for reflection. A final thought was one of hope. Wearing the poppy for Remembrance Day is not just a symbol to show respect for soldiers worldwide but as one of hope for peace. This links well with our focus this year on the Global Goal, ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’.

Secondary students were involved in creating an identity for their House teams today. Dalat, Saigon, Hanoi, and Hue are well established at BIS Hanoi, however, developing a real sense of being part of a community was a focus with the outcome being the creation of mottos, logos, and a team song.

Last week, our community put effort into developing their creativity as we celebrated the Big Draw. Tomorrow, you will be able to see some of the fabulous results as the pieces of artwork produced can be viewed and bid for at our BIS Art Auction.

The auction is one of the many events and activities planned for our International Festival. I do hope you can all come along for our exciting programme which starts at 9.00am tomorrow. With dance acts celebrating cultures from around the world including Greek, Salsa, Japanese, Korean and Hawaiian; musical acts celebrating brass, Samba drumming and the return of the Smiling Criminals and our now infamous BIS Choir you cannot fail to be amazed.

The weekend continues with BIS taking a very prominent role in the Inspire Me Festival organised by the British Embassy. Come and watch our students on the stage from 1.00pm to 2.30pm and drop in to the BIS booth at the Hoan Kiem Lake area.
