Dear Parents,

Global citizens make an impact by taking charge. This week, our Year 6 children made a difference to the lives of children who attend Hy Vong School for the Disabled. Our long-standing relationship with Hy Vong is really positive both for the children who visit and for our BIS children. Even though it can be difficult to communicate with children who are different to ourselves, all children love to explore and play. The children from Hy Vong really enjoy their visits as they have new experiences and make new friends.

Global citizens also are keen to get involved in broader issues affecting the world we live in. Two examples of this were clearly visible this week. Firstly, the parent and teacher group - Friends of BIS, had a meeting about how to upcycle school uniforms. The uniforms your children outgrow are often thrown away however they are keen to reuse the fabric by making a range of products which can be sold, for the benefit of our community partners. Further details with follow however if you are keen to help then please contact the Marketing and Admissions Team for further details.

Secondly, our Year 3 students were absolute stars today as they raised over 37 million VND to help Tam Dao Bears. The Young Enterprise project involved children working in teams to produce goods to sell and make a profit. Thank you to all those who attended the fair today and for your generosity.

The week ended on a high today as we welcomed James Goddard, a British Olympic Swimmer to our school. James is one of the best swimmers the U.K. has ever produced, reaching finals at Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European level. He represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012), finishing 4th in the 200m backstroke final in Athens. Thank you James for sharing your stories with us and giving us some excellent expert advice. Our swimmers certainly benefitted for your guidance in the pool.
