At BIS, we are always seeking to improve our learning environment for students. Several changes have been made to our Art rooms which you will notice when visiting the campus. The changes will enable students to work collaboratively, challenge their creativity and thus, facilitate them in becoming masters in any discipline they interest in.

We are now very excited to unveil that, after a lot of work of over the Summer and during the start of this term, our 3 connecting art rooms are now complete and now each dedicated to different material area:

  • One room which supports KS3 students in their acquisition of new creative skills and knowledge
  • A dedicated IB Art studio
  • An exciting work area for our iGCSE students

The rooms have flexible furniture allowing our teachers to reorganise the space and customise it for each lesson.

The design of our new art area allows for greater freedom with our flexible furniture and room layouts.  The classrooms have become specialist work-areas with a textiles space, digital design area, iMac studio and our dedicated IB studio space allowing older students to work in a contemporary manner, seamlessly bringing together 21st century skills and more traditional practices.

We are now 1 month into the new academic year and our students say they are excited to work in a more personal environment which allows them to take greater creative risks. Our investment in a wider range of materials and equipment means students get to experiment with processes not usually offered in a Secondary school setting.  Our IB Visual Arts and iGCSE students are looking forward to working with photographic screen printing, sewing machines, laser-cutting, sublimation printing and creating completed ceramic outcomes, which will be finished in our new kiln.  Students with an interest in photography have access to a much greater range of tools to aid their practice - some of which will exceed that taught in the first year of an under-graduate University degree. We anticipate that the changes will facilitate students in becoming masters in any discipline of art and design they wish to pursue.

The Year 13 students are extremely excited to host their IB Visual Arts exhibition in the new space in 2020. There is even talk that it will venture outside of the classroom into the corridor space. We look forward to showcasing our new space in an exhibition very soon. Keep a look out on the school calendar for when exhibition dates as they are added.
