Focus on Art at BIS Hanoi It has been a very busy term in the Art department with students working on various topics, projects and ECAs.

It has been a very busy term in the Art department with students working on various topics, projects and ECAs.

In KS3, students have been focusing on the formal elements, portraiture and architecture and have been using a wide range of media to work towards final pieces. Students have particularly enjoyed using the Macbooks and photoshop software to create digital collages.

In KS4, Year 10 have been taking part in a series of workshops to prepare them for their coursework which they will start before the Christmas holidays. Their outcomes have been stunning, and we are particularly impressed with their printmaking and artist responses. The Year 10s have even helped Primary school students by showing them how the printmaking process works. Year 11 are busy completing their coursework which will be an accumulation of experiments and idea developments to produce a final piece. Their effort and perseverance over the last year has been particularly impressive and we are so proud of everything they have achieved so far.

Year 12 have started their IB Visual Art Diploma with a focus on their process portfolio, Art literacy and oil painting, while year 13 are working on their exhibition pieces for the final unit of the diploma.

Students have also had opportunities to create Art in our Art ECAs. This term focused on creating the set design for the production, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and students from across the school have worked in the Art rooms using the sewing machines and painting large pieces of plywood for the backdrops of the production.

In Art news and competitions, we want to congratulate Phung Nhat Mi Nguyen and Quynh Chi Ho who won the ‘Ways Of’ Icons Competition. We also want to congratulate Ri Won Kim, Yuna Oh, Jun Pyo (Eric) Jang in year 7; Vy Vu Truong, Hyn Ryo Da and Danielle Phan in year 8 and Yan Xi Jin, Kyu Rim Kim and Minh Thu Pham, for winning the ‘Effort Certificate’ competition. Their designs will be used to create certificates for students that achieve high effort in both class work and homework each term. Well done to all our Art students for their hard work this term!
