What a week it has been!  There has been so much going on in school, with many exciting opportunities for our students to get involved in experiences and learning beyond the formal curriculum.

One of the things that sets BIS apart from other schools in Hanoi, is our commitment to developing students as rounded individuals, as well as focusing on academic achievement.  Your appreciation of this came over very clearly in the recent parent satisfaction survey, where many of you mentioned the strength of our provision to help students to develop in terms of personal and social development, creativity and science and technology.

We are very proud of the collaborations which Nord Anglia Education has with world class institutions such as Juilliard and MIT.  Our students benefit from these directly, in the impressive range of projects and activities which they are invited to participate in.  They also benefit indirectly, through the training and support given to our teachers.

This week, eight of our students in Years 7 to 9 took part in an Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) STEAM Festival, which you can read about in the newsletter.  I went to see how they were getting on and was quite overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and excitement as students planned, discussed, and collaborated on the project.  These are the kind of experiences which students will remember, and may potentially impact on their later career and life choices.

Our collaboration with Juilliard enriches our performing arts curriculum.   Next week, we are holding an online dance workshop, which will be led by Hilary Easton, live from New York and Ms. Bevan.  This workshop is intended for parents to learn first-hand about our dance curriculum.  By taking part in a practical and creative dance session, parents can learn more about the types of experiences and learning our student receive.  There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers at the end.  The workshop will be on Tuesday 6th April at 8.50 am, so please make a note in your diary.

At BIS we are very proud of our students and want to celebrate individual successes with our wider community.  I’m very happy, therefore, to share the news that Eric, in Year 7, has continued to build on his success in the recent Nord Anglia Young Musicians of the Year Award.  Since then, Eric, a talented pianist, has won 1st Prize in the 12-13 age group in the Piano House International competition and 2nd prize in the age 12 section of the Chopin Society international competition.   His prize is an invitation to a music gala at Carnegie Hall in New York later this year.   Many congratulations to you Eric!
