Global Campus's Fan Fiction Writing Competition This week saw the first of our ‘Creative writing workshops’ for students in Years 5 and 6.

This week saw the first of our ‘Creative writing workshops’ for students in Years 5 and 6. Each week the children meet at lunchtimes to develop skills in developing written powers of expression, writing clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting the language and style for an audience and to develop editing and proof reading skills. These workshops were organised in response to Nord Anglia’s Global Campus creative writing competition. You can find out more about Global Campus in the Nord Anglia family of schools here.

The theme of this year’s writing competition is Fan Fiction, for those of you new to this, Fan Fiction is when you take the story or characters (or both) of a work you like and make your own story. You can base it on a book, a TV show, or movie. So far the students who have entered the competition have chosen to write using a wide variety of stimuli such as ‘Miraculous Ladybug’; a French animated adventure series; Demon Dentist a comedy story written by David Walliams to the much loved Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling.

The children will have till the 9th December to work on their short story and have many opportunities in school to work with different teachers who will offer guidance and support. The competition will be tough this year as the age category is 8-14 years but the children are enthusiastic and showing a great passion for both reading and writing.
