Primary's Student Council Update

Since our Student Council elections in August, our Student Council have been very active in their role. They meet every three weeks to discuss how we can further improve our school, putting forward their own ideas and those of their classmates. They have made excellent suggestions for how we can improve playtimes for the children such as recruiting play leaders to help organise games for the younger children, seating areas where children can draw or play board games outside, a bigger range of play equipment so that the children have more choice, a friendship bench where you can sit if you’re feeling lonely and someone will come and talk to you and a Student Council notice board so that parents and children have information of what is happening around the school. Mr West was very impressed with their suggestions and has agreed for all of these changes to take place!  After the Tet holiday, our first volunteer Play Leaders will begin their role and are very much looking forward to it!  Some of the suggestions will take a little more time to organise but will definitely happen.

The children have also impressed us with their commitment to charity work throughout the term. Firstly, the council organised a very successful Christmas disco raising almost 22 million VND. They then began organising donations for their charity booth at the Tet Fayre. During the day they organised a rota of helpers to make sure everything ran smoothly.  We were delighted with the further 6 million VND that was raised; the student council will now meet with their peers to decide which charities should benefit from these funds.

Our young leaders have really stepped up to the challenge and every member of the Student Council feels proud of what they have already achieved.  It is worth remembering that some of our children are only in Year 1 but imagine how this experience of early leadership will grow as they continue to develop!
