Last week saw the celebration of our ‘Respect’ winners, those students who had worked hard to gain Respect Points through their everyday interactions with members of our community. This week, during an assembly, we launched our second personal goal ‘Enquiry’ and we look forward to the children identifying ways that they can gain these points. For example, what research techniques can they utilise during lessons? How can they find out more about a subject area? It does not just stop at school either! Our parent workshop on ‘Setting Personal Goals’, led by Ms. Thu on Monday, was very well attended.
Residential trips form an integral part of our program here at BVIS and foster a range of soft skills. For many of our students, this will be the first time that they are spending a night away from home, so they will need to rely on their peers for support. Empathy, listening, respect and confidence are the obvious soft skills developed in this context. Our Year 6 students are well placed to perform highly in these areas, since they have been on residentials a couple of times before. We are currently finalising all of the arrangements for the Years 4 to 6 residential trips taking place next week.
