As we enter term 3 all the teachers have been preparing for the final IEYC units of work alongside their Talk for Writing stories. When you enter the different ELCs you can see that they have been transformed into wonderful learning areas linked to not only these units of work and stories but also the Monster school mascots.

F3 started a unit on ‘The World Around Us.’ As soon as they entered the F3 department they were immersed in role-play experiences linked to the shops and local area within Royal City. They now have their own VinMart supermarket, a Pizza Company restaurant, a Tous Les Jours café and a recycling centre. As part of their entry point this week they visited the Pizza Company downstairs and learnt all about how to make a pizza. They had a tour of the kitchen and saw where and how the pizzas were made. It is really important for the children to learn about the places and buildings all around them as it not only gives them a sense of identity but it helps them to understand more about the world around them.

All the children in F3 have spent time looking at the atlas and globe and have started to use Google Earth and Google Maps as a class. We were surprised to see how many of our friends lived in and around the buildings within Royal City. Over the next few weeks they will design and make their own maps of Royal City.

Google Earth is a wonderful resource and helps the children to see the bigger picture about where they live not only in Hanoi but across the whole world. You can use it for free.
